Here is Bob’s first big Christmas show from 1987 on WFLA. We believe this to be the broadcast that brought Bob back in touch with the long, lost Mrs. Boswell. All of Bob’s great stories are here, presented to his audience for the very first time. Mike & I wish to thank everyone for your support over that last 3 years and wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Keep checking back for we will have a brand new site and lots of new shows for you in the New Year. Happy Holidays!

Well friends, it appears that we have been hacked. We need to make some changes to our web site. Sometime in the near future BobLassiterAirchecks.com will be down for several days while we retool to bring you a bigger, better & greatly expanded Lassiter site.
To celebrate the launch of our new site we will be posting 200+ complete, full length WFLA Lassiter broadcasts. We’ll have some new interviews and other surprises as well.
We will post an announcement in the Yahoo Group forum after we have launched the new site.
Thank you for your patience and continued support!

An interview with a census expert went awry at the beginning of the show, and since then things have gone every which way–meaning that, without really intending to, it’s become an open program.

In between his obligatory shots at WFLA (who, callers report, will dump anyone who says “Lassiter” or “WSUN” on the air), Bob gives away Mother’s Day bouquets to good callers.

Bob talks about why prayer doesn’t work, and can’t possibly work: because if everything that happens is according to God’s perfect plan, then praying for something is asking God to change his perfect plan. One caller is so outraged that she tells Bob that God will destroy the entire station. Also contains the “Keepin’ the Faith with Scott from Clearwater” call.

Part of this show has been posted before as “Get to Know Your Neighbors.” It’s Friday and Bob is in a great mood, loving the calls that are coming in, and he’s even managed to figure out the Petitioner’s real first name since he was on that evening’s edition of WPLP’s “Dateline.” The big topic is Gary Hart, and there are two calls from “The Kid“.

In the first half, Bob hosts Robert K. Skolrood, head of the National Legal Foundation, who argues that secular humanism is out to destroy the institution of Christianity and everything America stands for. In the second, Bob takes beloved leader Ronald Wilson Reagan to task for policy in Nicaragua — in essence, telling them how to conduct their lives and country.

Bob has a list of fourteen — count ‘em! — fourteen topics for callers to tackle. The callers he gets are clueless, off-topic, and often completely incomprehensible. Callers who DO have the slightest idea what they’re talking about discuss SOFAR and the Iran-Contra hearings. Includes calls from the Petitioner, Carolyn from New Port Richey and many other familiar WPLP voices.

Yet another of the many, many, many, many different names for “Open Phones.” Bob opens with a few of the subjects on his mind this evening. Then there’s discussion about the SOFAR movement, and the death of an American civilian in Nicaragua.

Discussion of UFOs and aliens, and whether there’s any legitimacy to the subject or if it’s entirely the domain of the kooks. Somewhere along the line this becomes demonic, face-eating aliens. (Actually, this is the fourth and final “open” hour to a show in which that was previously the topic. There’s also talk about the computer.)

An excellent show. Bob reminds the audience of what has come out in the Iran-Contra hearings, and of the lies our government has told, the stupid policies they’ve created, and the thoughtless actions they’ve taken, all in the name of America. Then he points out the sense of moral outrage that’s come up around Gary Hart’s affair with Donna Rice and his departure from the Presidential race. But why is this more worthy of moral outrage? Where’s the moral outrage for the real crimes, committed by the Reagan Administration?

It’s a fourth or fifth Saturday, so Bob’s holding down the morning shift (9 to noon) at WPLP. But he can’t get any cool people to call in — they don’t get up that early in the morning. (This is the first of the PLP Saturday morning shows that we’ve received: the cool people must also be the ones with tape recorders.
